I felt she delved into the creative process behind each album pretty well, and (perhaps because I wasn't around in the beginning to absorb things first hand) found out a few things I didn't know. Although it was clear she was/is a fan, she managed to be critical about some aspects of Madonna's work and offered some new perspective about her (particularly the bit about her rape in New York may have influenced her aggressive image and decision to do the SEX book).

Like I said perhaps it's not perfect, but compared to other Madonna bios I've read it's pretty good IMO. Perhaps we need a superfan like Matt Rettenmund to do Madge justice.K. Quite fuzzy. Hopefully one day we'll get a truly comprehensive book about Madonna that focuses on what really happened at each stage of her career, her music, etc., might come in two volumes!! By the way, who remembers one of the very first Madonna book from 1985 by Mark Bego "Madonna!" (before he wrote his second horrible book "Madonna: Blonde Ambition")? You can't find it in the US, I found it in France (in French), this early book is actually the most comprehensive when it comes to the early days, it even has interviews with Madonna, Jellybean, Mark Kamins, etc.Ninahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01340956402735460392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1741750437311864307.post-58169735443031248842012-04-25T11:48:08.852-07:002012-04-25T11:48:08.852-07:00Agree with Richard! Everybody is a beautiful song!...Agree with Richard! Everybody is a beautiful song! When Madonna Happily Cries "Dance and Sing/Get Up and Do Your Thing!," Beatiful Tears Are Running and Streaming Down Her Wet Face! Madonna Is Laughing and Smiling-but Here's the Catch
-She's All Still Wet because Her Mother is not there. Yet it's Her Determination That Takes Lady Madge to the very top of the Rock Tree-Today, Madonna Still Cries Happily and Sadly-"I Have Worked Really Hard, I Still Want to make people Happy and My Dreams Will Forever Come True!" For Madonna, Here Are the Detroit Facts. Unlike other Eighties Recording Acts, Here's Where Madonna Stacks Up and Wins Easily-U2-Madonna's Only True Contemporary still making brilliant Rock but unfortunately at this stage in their career, unsure of which musical direction they'll take next, R.E.M.-another band who had a long career-their early Murmur/Document work was innovative and trailblazing but their Green/Collapse period although acclaimed and successful, their ambition became a curse-they have since disbanded. Prince-for a time Madonna's only true rival in terms of success and artistry-Later became one of rock's recluses, a sharp decline and drop in musical quality and is now semi-retired from msic itself. Finally, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston-two talented singers who lost it all because of fame-both die and take their own lives from drugs. The facts don't lie-Madonna is still on top! We still don't know much about what really happened from the day she got signed to Sire in April '82 (if it's really April '82) to the release of the first single in October '82, and even what happened between 'Everybody' and 'Burning Up', then the time between 'Burning Up' and the first album, etc. I hope one day an INTELLIGENT biographer writes a really comprehensive book on Madonna with emphasis on her work, the actual timeline, etc. They did write such a comprehensive book on Elvis http://amzn.to/7mtXpG and The Beatles http://amzn.to/JFpkmR who really are her only equals in terms of chart domination, record sales and cultural impact.Ninahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01340956402735460392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1741750437311864307.post-91457589354190823572012-04-24T22:27:12.791-07:002012-04-24T22:27:12.791-07:00great cover!great cover!1https://www.blogger.com/profile/08252321471345701403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1741750437311864307.post-72084183080452740052012-04-24T22:24:44.599-07:002012-04-24T22:24:44.599-07:00nina, youre marvelous. xonina, youre marvelous. xoPud Whackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01330028293649667913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1741750437311864307.post-29061364504998012502012-04-24T20:46:19.836-07:002012-04-24T20:46:19.836-07:00Didn't discover Everybody until after Borderli...Didn't discover Everybody until after Borderline and Lucky Star were on the radio. A promo copy, no less) makes me think of the beginning of the VHS for The Virgin Tour. “I wanted to go to New York, I wanted to be a big star, I worked really hard. And, my dream came true.” I’ve always felt a special bond with this record - it’s Madonna, duh - but because my birthday is Oct 4th, 1982. I always say it was in the stars for me to celebrate Madonna as much as I have. At any rate, this is the OFFICIAL start of it all. The confusion with April is because Madonna was actually signed to Sire Records, for a singles-deal, in April 1982. Then after the success of 'Everybody' and 'Burning Up' on the Billboard dance/club and Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles charts, Warner Bros. (Sire's parent company) jumped in and signed her to a full-on record deal in 1983, through Sire. So basically she signed a singles-deal with Sire in April 1982, got 'Everybody' released in October 1982, then signed the record deal with Sire/Warner Bros. in 1983, with the debut album following that summer. The rest is history... THE MOST SPECTACULAR CAREER IN POP MUSIC.Ninahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01340956402735460392noreply@blogger.com
