A lot of people hated American Life. It's actually one of my top 3 Madonna albums. Lyrically, it's amazing. I loved the electro-acoustic sound she was working with. To me, it got overlooked for the controversy about the unreleased video...much like Erotica did for her Body Of Evidence/Sex book combo.
