"I think we are all going to remember May 29, 1985 as the day that Madonna took Philadelphia by storm!!!"

"We learned one thing tonight and that is Madonna Louise Ciccone is a consummate professional. From the first moment she knows exactly how to grab her audience and hold them with a show that is expertly staged, choreographed to the hilt and exploding with energy! A sold out audience celebrated The Coming of Madonna! Free spirit, pop queen, cultural phenomenon. With cocky self assurance and a definite flare for the dramatic, she covers the stage in a non-stop orgy of entertainment that is as much dance as it is song."- Judy Barton

  1. Wow! I've never seen photos of Madonna in this skirt and this outfit put together like this before! Awesome! (P.S.: I tried to win tickets to see this concert from a local radio station when I was a kid, but didn't win. I got through their phone line, but I wasn't the 98th caller or whatever they wanted. I was so sad about that. I remember 2 DJs playing the Angel 12-inch Dance Mix the day after and they said, "This sounds a lot like the concert we were at last night.")

  3. That great hand-painted jacket and the matching skirt are awesome! I saw her a couple years later in Philly at the Who's That Girl World Tour for the first time. That was my first big concert too! Still, I would have loved to have seen The Virgin Tour live.

  6. Oh Pud...you know just how much this means to me, especially since I was there. This era and tour was and is EVERYTHING!!!! And yes, I hate to rub it in again but I saw that outfit LIVE!!!! It was and will always be AMAZING. Little did I know a couple months later I would be getting "Into The Groove" with her again at Live Aid. 13th row!!!! Thanks for posting this. XOXO Scraps.

  7. SCRAPPY...any tidbits you can share from those 2 events would be WONDERFUL! I was in the 8th grade when Virgin Tour was kicking off. I happen to fail one of my six weeks exams (too much VHS viewing of Madonna videos kept me busier). But because I failed my six weeks exams, I wasn't allowed to go to the concert! HARSH!! I love my mother and would do anything for her but THIS has never been forgiven!!! I have seen all the other tours and multiple times (it has become a sickness because I was deprived of Virgin Tour and all its beauty)! So, for now...I will live through you!

  8. I think this is the period that proved madonna's fame and stardom was not built on mere controversies. She liked to be so sexy, at the same time won the global acceptance without making much fuzz. It's a slam on those who say that she survived just by luck and hype. Ooooh, my favourites in this period are like a virgin, dress you us and lucky star. I get goose flesh even when i think of these songs! Her moves in dress you up live were incredibly cool. The only thing that i felt strange was her heavy make up for the tour. It simply masked her original beauty. I wish if she really had that mole over her lips. I've got no words to describe it's brilliance!!!
