Madonna unreleased Nike Commercial 1990

I wear what I want and I do what I want. Ask Pepsi.

In 1990, there was a rumored Nike commercial with Madonna and her Blond Ambition dancers - it never materialized...until now! It fell through because Madonna refused to wear the product.

Legendary.

  7. Pud: if you are going to steal ALL the stuff you post from French site www.absolumentmadonna.fr, you could at least name their site and thank them. Bad manners. Or perhaps you are just imitating Madonna, the number one thief in the world.
    Think about it.

  9. That is hilarious! I wouldn't have ever connected it with Nike though.... Pepsi would've hated this commerical. LOL You can really tell it was during the Vogue era. Great find. Thanks for posting it!

  10. I don't know if the reason the deal felt through is because of the actual spot but what a dreadful commercial. Arrogant and Pointless. It's not even cute arrogant. Madonna did the right thing by not pulling through with this.

  12. this file came from the "Breathless Madonna" forum where it was posted by club78boy as a world exclusive. the people at "Absolument Madonna" are the biggest thieves in the world. everything posted on their site comes from elsewhere. so they better shut up on the subject...
thanks a lot for all the great stuff you share with us, Pud!

by the way, about the Blond Ambition sketches, in the french Glamour:

Gaultier explained that he conceived a torero outfit for "La Isla Bonita" but as the number was eventually cancelled, he reused it for his own collection. I would love to see what it looked like. he also explained that his dressmakers first refused to sew the Sooner Or Later/Hanky Panky costumes because it contained green and in fashion this color is considered unlucky.

  17. hey there pudwhacker, thanks for the fabulous site, and thanks for crediting the appropriate people (madonnatribe.com), as well as the breathless site (VERY cool!) for this information. i am a very active member of the madonnatribe forums and it's a terrific site, and we all love your madge-dedicated site. in fact, i am the one who told many forum members about your site...which was discovered by my boyfriend.

bringing this back to the nike commercial, madonnatribe did an interview with luis where he confirmed that the nike commercial was filmed the same day as the vogue video, so this footage is definitely nike intended.

this is one of, apparently, 8 outtakes that are out there owned by collectors who have the right connections, and can fork up the money to buy super rare stuff like this. i don't know what the other outtakes look like.

remember that for the rock the vote 1990 commercial a lot of "outtake" footage was used for the final commercial, so who knows what nike was aiming for when they filmed madonna, but it looks like part of what they wanted her to do was improvise and have fun.

  18. Hey Pud...AMAZING! Thank you for sharing...I don't know who is responsible for originally leaking it but I know Pud is going to give credit where credit is due. People need to stop worrying about who gets "credit" and start saying "thank you!" So Pud, THANK YOU! Amazing find and I appreciate that you take the time to share!

@ Cristian, Fascinating information. I went back to Madonna Tribe to read the interview with Luis but I didn't see anything about the commercial. It would be great if you could share the link to what you read - I love finding out all of stuff. I knew of the whole deal back in the day but I love how it unfolds even 20 years later.

Thanks again PUD! LOVE LOVE LOVE WHAT YOU DO!!!!

  19. OMG Pud that is everything. Nike was Keep It Together related IIRC. I remember hearing about Reebok as well.

  20. @ Buster. I'm sorry...it wasn't Luis that confirmed this on Madonnatribe, it was Carlton Wilborn that confirmed this with an interview on Madonnatribe.

    Here is the link:
    http://www.madonnatribe.com/idol/carlton.htm

    Here are his exact words:

"CW:...We knew from the way it was designed that we were going to be featured in the video [for Vogue] and not being just as extras. It was amazing.

Oh and by the way that same day we also shot, as the cast of Blond Ambition, a Nike commercial that Madonna was going to do and that never aired.
It all happened during the first weeks of tour rehearsals.

MT: Can you tell us a bit more about this Nike commercial? There have been reports and rumours about it for a long time...

CW: Well we shot it and I remember we were all dressed in different Nike clothes and Madonna decided who was going to wear what, and which dancers were going to be used for separate shots and I remember the moment when they wanted me to finish a workout of dance and then I had to flop down a sofa.

I don't remember exactly why it never aired. "

  21. WOW! Very cool...thanks Cristian! I do remember the Vogue was recorded on February 9th and 10th so that must have been the first week of rehearsals. I love finding more information about these events. Thanks again to Pud and to everyone else with their positive input.
