The Singer as Model. Mademoiselle. Madonna - A Star Shines

Shot in 1983, released officially in Mademoiselle magazine in 1984 - this is Madonna's first shoot with Steven Meisel. The time of the Burning Up video shoot. This is the beginning of Madonna's true relationship with fashion photographers. The singer that modeled. Only one with a modern dance background and that face could do it. Different. Now the norm - even if they're fucking ugly and undeserving.

So early, it's what truly separated her from her contemporaries that would go sit with any photographer they were told to by their record companies. Not Madonna. She had a vision and unique talent. They always say she knew how to use the video medium but they always forget to inject her keen knowledge of and relationship with photography, photographers and the camera.

One slice of the pie that makes Madonna, Madonna.

  1. Yes, she's a genious in front of a camera. Unique. I launched that proves that featuring the most legendary photos of her ever taken. Everyone's invited: http://madonnabeautiful.com

  2. I love this site best when it posts articles and newspaper clippings! Thank you!

  3. Yes JC. But Pud's been busy lately stealing from other sites instead of uploading his own junk. Doesn't Madge do the same anyway?
    Sad

  5. Hey ... Have you called Jenny yet? Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally and we wouldn't want a shiny happy person/it/he/she like you to suddenly have a heart-attack and die lol. Who would come to this site and give us deep thoughts like yours? We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves... Please keep spreading your vile miserable ugly attitude across this beautiful world. Yours truly dry ass (and proud of it as I give it and not take it).

  6. my pleasure jamesy and jc!!! we can thank my sister and her fashion mags in the 80's. this one was so early - and there is no mention of her on the cover, if it wasnt for her, i wouldnt have it. it could have easily slipped by. i have the torn out versions that hung on my all for years and the complete magazine intact. xo

  9. Sergio: what is it all this hatred and cheap vocabulary? Madge don't deserve this. Open your heart

  10. My mean words are never towards M, who I love... it's towards that coward with no name (...) who constantly bashes M and Pud. If he/she can bash Madonna and Pud I can definitely give he/she a taste of his/her own medicine... P.S. My heart is always open lol... thanks

  14. There is a small photo in the back of the same issue (January 1984 Mademoiselle) from the same shoot. It's easy to miss if you don't go thru every page. One of my favorite shoots, Steven really captured her beauty in every shot.

  15. She used those horrid baggy jeans just to hide her extreme fat. I can't get over how fat she was back then. No wonder she later developed a mania for staying fit. A sick obssession I would say, for she has the most bizarre body there is in entertainment.
    Clarissa: your blog rules!

  16. ... Too bad you are so old and still as fat as you have always been LOL. Maybe you should develop an obsession at this old age and go run a few miles instead of sitting on your couch watching the food network while stuffing your ugly face with fried chicken LOL. I missed you on this blog yesterday, I need my daily dose of pounding the shit out of your fat body...

  17. Pud,
You should really moderate these posts. Some people do not deserve the right to comment.

  18. 2 certain somebodys need a time out, for hair pulling and stealing each other's lip gloss.. jeeess.. get a life people.

ahem, back to the subject at hand. M's early look always seemed so exotic to me.. very spicy, almost latin more than italian.. fresh off the boat from cuba or venezuela. i think it was an early sign of her ability to metamorphose into whatever culture fascinated her at a given time. these days she looks like a scandanavian bombshell... i suspect dark hair is right around the corner again.

  20. Johnny: censorship is a BAAAAAAAAD thing. Do the hell do you think you are, Mr. Fag Serious? Do you you really think your pretentious nonsense are much better than any comment of mine????? LOL. Yeah, right. I'm still laughing my ass off with the "scandinavian bombshell" and all that crap. I mean, how small-minded that? Sometimes, keeping from writing is a lot more wiser, Johnny.
Speaking of hair colours, maybe you're right. Dark hair is around the corner, but just because baldness is around the corner too! She just can't manage the two or three poor hairs she has.

  21. Baldness can be cured with a wig, unfortunately for a fat fuck like you (...) with no life there is no hope lol, no friends, no man to fuck the shit out of u - just that tiny dick... your only happiness in life is to come here... Hope you are enjoying every minute of it as much as I am shitting on your (...) fat ass every single day LOL.

  22. You should lend poor old Madge one of your lovely wigs, those you wear at those cheaps nightclubs, where you often dress like Madge and do those laughable gigs in front a bunch of old queens, with a naked mike and one weak spotlight focusing on your old, ugly and heavily made-up face. You should earn your living in a more dignified manner, Dryass. Even if Madge is older than Stonehenge, you're too old for the character.

  23. LOL c'mon ... you can do better that that. Silence of the lambs was based on you, I already used that line when I started bashing your fat body and your ugly face in my first post... I know it's really hard for you, as your focus is all on stuffing your face and playing with your dick and pussy at the same time as no other human being on earth ever will touch you but PLEASE find a better comeback lol... FUT DRIED UP FUCK LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. What's silence of the lambs? I haven't a clue

    ReplyDelete
  25. You are right about one thing LOL (dot dot dot ...) you haven't got a clue and I doubt you ever will. P.S. Go eat a donut!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Go eat dick! I'd rather eat a donut and keep my dignity intact. And, of course, I also keep my dignity by not buying Maddy's shit records.

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL @ ... Dear Dot Dot Dot I am not a big fan of eating dicks but thanks for the offer. Go stuff your fat ass but please do not talk about dignity as fat pieces of shit like you do not have any. With love Sergio...
