Madonna's aptly titled The Immaculate Collection. I embarked on an entire essay but everyone has their own relationship with this album. Dedicated to '"The Pope" my divine inspiration' by a woman named Madonna with an album called The Immaculate Collection? Perfect.
Concept & Design ~ Brilliant.
LOVE IT! I hope Jeri Heiden/SMOG design designs her new cd!
ReplyDeleteMy very first madonna album was this cassette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love it!! thank you pud!!
ReplyDeleteRumour is MADONNA WILL BE ON OPRAH'S LAST EPISODE (May 25th) to show a clip of W.E.
ReplyDeleteHave you guys asked Guy Oseary on twitter about it?
Let's flood him with the query and see if he replies.
And do not forget folks, we're going to CELEBRATE when W.E. gets premiered here:

There were two versions, weren't there? One with embossed, shiny gold lettering and then afterwards, just a matte-like gold, right?
ReplyDeleteEverything was perfect except for the cover. Should have had her face on it (like the video).
ReplyDeletenot a fan of the packaging.. kindofa lame attempt at capturing the majestic LAP logo... but the photography is pure magic!!!! sooo Fellini-esque
ReplyDeletei have the Royal Box cassette version! LOL. My good friend gave it to me because she had an extra one. the title is pure genius!
ReplyDeleteThis brings back some amazing memories. I got this tape for Christmas of 1990. I was 12 and this was by far the best gift I was ever given.
ReplyDeleteSad that today I cannot listen to this album with the awful 'remix' versions of the songs.
Still, great memories, beautiful packaging, etc.
PS:
ReplyDeleteThe cover is perfection.
It let's the music speak for itself, No need to have Madonna's face on it.
just heard from a friend who is a make up artist. he is at the big oprah farewell, madonna was there rehearsing !!!!!
ReplyDeleteBought the cassette of course and got the royal box for Christmas that year! Loved the album title and really wished GHV2 would be titled "Second Coming". It would have been brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThis made me buy all the older Madonna albums I never got to experience seeing as I was to young. I loved the new holiday and I loved the new express yourself and like a prayer. Iremember thinking rescue me was some of the best poetry I had ever read. I since still love this version of holiday only dislike that it's too short. I have always loved the end of madonna songs. This version in particular lacks the repetition of "holiday, celebration come together in ever nation" All the songs were cut not to include the best parts. I also since have change my mind and love the Like a Prayer version of Express yourself and the title track. I DJ now and always find time to play Like a Prayer - complete with guitar at the beginning- I love watching people light up when they hear it- almost like it's my song. This album saved me in my youth. I had no friends and just the power of music and song and would listen to Madonna sing my blues away.
ReplyDeleteThis is where it all started for me. I bought this 20 years ago this summer. My life changed afterwards. The songs hit me instantly, I knew most of her big hits but not all of them. I listened to this cassette so much, that by the time 'Erotica' was released the words on the cassette were worn out and the tape was mangled (probably from rewinding 'Vogue' one too many times)
ReplyDeleteThe artwork/photos were just as exciting as the music, I was, and still am obsessed with the inside/back cover shot. I'd love a huge poster of just that image.
Even though some of the remixes are now dated, this album still holds a very special place in my heart as it is the thing that started it all of.
Magical
Trey, I always wished GHV2 or Celebration was called, 'The Ultimate Collection'. That would have been perfection, IMO.
ReplyDelete@Tony, Yeah that would be nice too, but I would have loved the "religious tongue in cheek title of Second Coming" it's just fun.
