#Madonna Happy 6th Confessions on a Dance Floor!

6 years ago today, Madonna released her fabulous Confessions on a Dance Floor. Listening to the Confessions now. It was a wonderful time when the fans were united. A few drear mongers were complaining about this time ~ the Madonna brilliance won out.

Remember the Fans Reaction to the Confessions album cover?

  1. As brilliantly stated by Liz Smith in her recent column:

For Madonna, asking questions and defying convention worked — she remains an iconic and provoking figure on the world stage. (She’s got millions, too.) Her four children, her work, her inevitable maturity, and her choice of male companions continue to provoke — and often anger — those who dislike her. And even those who admire her. Everybody always thinks “they” know what is best for Madonna.

  4. I love Confessions on a Dancefloor. For Madonna fans who love Vogue it's the album we always hoped she'd make. Jump, Sorry, Get Together... all brilliant singles. Future Lovers, Let It Will Be, Issac... all brilliant album tracks. It was the perfect antidote to American Life. One grumble (isn't there always one?) - the videos to Jump and Get Together just weren't up to the job. Apart from that, a great time and a great album.

Love the You Tube clip by the way. So accurate it's scary.

  8. Such a great album. Once again, perfect except one song: Push. Horrible on every level and does not fit ANYWHERE in the context of this album.

She always comes so close to a perfect album, then throws something on it that ruins it for me: Act of Contrition, Mer Girl, Push.

Her last great album? She has had 1 album after this lol

  11. Oh my god, you didn't just say Mer Girl is the "something" that ruins Ray of Light...!!! ;)

I love Mer Girl. It brought Madonna to another level for me - I was 12 at the time and the album took my vulnerable mind by surprise. And that bleak ending made me believe in pop music. If a pop icon could end an album in such a daring, formless way, anything was possible.

In any case, I love that Liz Rosenberg quote. Give me all your love is awesome as is, although a few more touches couldn't hurt. Some people won't like it because of context (Madonna being "calendar old"). Well, too bad. She's gonna own it and by the time she's done with her promo tour you'll be licking the sweat off her feet. Again.

  12. Fantastic album. It took a bit to grab me at first, but once it took hold...WATCH OUT. I listened to this an insane amount of times from Fall 2005 through Summer 2006

  13. Really Good album and nice to revisit from time to time. And I really like PUSH! Mer Girl was a bit Toriesque (not that that is a bad thing) and Act of Contrition was a perfect tongue in cheek track to end a great album IMO.

Love what I have heard of the new record. Not so worried anymore! LUV MADONNA

  14. Act, Mer Girl, Push...all fine as B-Sides, but on the albums themselves, I just don't like. I am a fan of pop, which is bright and cheery, not dark and gloomy (which is why i didnt like the Drowned World Tour).

  15. I remember my mom bought this album when it came out, I was like 12 lol it was the first Madonna album I ever listened to. My mom was telling me how huge she was esp. in the 80's but I was so rebellious against my mom at the time I couldn't care less! Ironically, It wasn't until 2009 I discovered Madonna for myself and got all her albums lol

  17. confessions was a special time. i was backpacking around the world at the time, with my trip ending in nyc just as the promo for the single and album was beginning. even on holiday i couldn't resist getting my m fix and kept abreast of all her scheduled and rumoured appearances around the city. it paid off as i managed to see her in the flesh three times in the space of one week. the roxy was the highlight. hearing stuart spin his own instrumental remixes of then-unknown album tracks - and watching m dance to them right in front of me - blew my mind. i was already a massive fan of stuart's and so it was just a dream night (and collaboration) for me.

soon after arriving back home from my trip the album was released. i remember being especially moved the first time i heard get together. the rousing beat, the simplicity of the lyrics and the yearning in her voice seemed to hit a nerve. i love new york felt like a little momento for me following my nyc adventures. forbidden love was hypnotic. isaac mesmerizing. i was so pleased with tracks like jump, rejoicing that spoken-word madonna had made a return!
