Truth or Dare - Madonna The Brand

In 1987, during the Who's That Girl Tour, Madonna achieved the nearly impossible. Madonna received the fame that is usually reserved only for the dead. News hit today that she has Truth or Dare, the brand - footwear, handbags, intimates, accessories and fragrance. And why shouldn't she? Marilyn, Elvis and James Dean are brands. Add Madonna to that list. Except she lives to enjoy it.

  1. A load of old tat in other words. Coming directly to a bargain bin near you. But you're right, why shouldn't she? It's her name, her brand. But how depressing.

  2. I think her hands are fine. But I also think the world has enough footwear, handbags and fragrances without Madonna adding to the pile.

  3. Pud, I totally agree.
People seem to forget Madonna was always a brand thats dates back to the early days, Macy's deal mid 80s, Japan deals, Gap, H&M, D&G, Ad campaigns, gyms and now Macy's with MG and T&D lines.
My point is even when Madonna fans gripe about her selling out or it distracts her image from her Music or she loses her coolness or edge?? Madonna is a living her brand to the fullest ALIVE. No living star has the magnitude of Madonna so why shouldn't she market herself as much as she can??

  4. This reminds of when Elizabeth Taylor came with her white diamonds perfume. I was little girl then, I never saw any of her movies, but I knew who she was. Madonna is heading towards that legacy!

  5. Love it! If you don't like it, don't buy it. Easy to sit and criticize. What a boring life one must lead to complain so much.

  6. i love it, Madonn'a like the honey badger.. she don't give a fuck!! i wanna see Ray of Light worship centers, Live a Virgin bridal boutiques, La Isla Bonita vacation resorts, Who's That Girl sexual re-assignment clinics... i mean, seriously this is just the tip of the ice-berg!!!! and why not bring back Madonna Money, considering the worldwide financial markets.

  7. Or DIAMONDS! By Elizabeth Taylor!?!

  8. slide...those suggestions and ideas made my pants moist. I think you should send those ideas to Madonna.

  9. The difference between Elizabeth Taylor's perfume enterprise and Madonna's truth or dare brand, is that Elizabeth Taylor was a PIONEER in releasing her perfume line beginning with Passion and White Diamonds next, and that is worthy of admiration, because she was a visionary.

Madonna coming out with a perfume now in 2011 reeks of desperation and it's Madonna jumping on or following the footsteps of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian as to not be left behind, as oppossed to being the first one like Elizabeth Taylor.

Madonna used to be a pioneer, not so anymore. Elizabeth Taylor remained a pioneer till the last breath.

  10. Chill people, do you think Madonna care about what you think about her enterprises? I doubt it and that's been her prerogative all along and that's one the reasons she's always succeeded and became who she is today. If you haven't noticed that about her then you are not a real Madonna fan;)

  11. So in your opinion when did Madonna stop becoming a pioneer? I have to hear this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, I think the moment was the American Life video fiasco. It was the first time Madonna censored herself, for the most idiotic reason may I add, which is money, something that didn't really make a difference before, I mean the prospect of losing sales because of criticism never stopped Madonna's creativity but it somehow stopped her with American Life, and she censored herself.

Ever since American Life she doesn't care about videos anymore, she doesn't care about art, she doesn't care about making music that is pioneering, etc, all she cares about is reclaiming the American market and that is the reason why she hasn't been culturally or musically relevant since 2000's Music.

Sure, the Confessions Tour was an artistic high point in Madonna's career I will concede to that, but I wouldn't call it a pioneering tour.

Her last pioneering tour was of course, The Drowned World Tour, which changed touring forever in the same way that the Blonde Ambition tour had changed touring forever 11 years before it.

But musically, Madonna stopped being a pioneer completely, and she seems to gradually stop pioneering in all other areas to be honest, it's heartbreaking to me.

  13. Madonna hasn't made a single thought provoking or memorable video since American Life, NOT ONE.

For the woman who invented the video art form, the CECIL B. DEMILLE OF VIDEOS, this is horrifying. I just don't understand how some "fans" defend this, I mean how does the same person goes from doing "Vogue" to doing "Give It 2 Me"? it just doesn't seem right, it's not evolution, it's atrophy and I can't accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Ramona - You're delusional. There was nothing pioneering about The Drowned World Tour - The Funny Song, anyone?

And I thought you were leaving?

Give it 2 Me is a fun video for a fun song. DEAL.

    BYE BYE BABY!!

  15. And lol@music being anything other then a hot, cold, emotionless mess. Void of anything human.

    Terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And I don't know how some FANS defend having a person like Ramon as a fan? I can't stand all the fucking negativity.

All this Bill O'Reilly ignorant thinking. Stating opinion as if it were fact.

Stop doing that, Ramona! It's very annoying and makes you look worse then the Jump or Ray of Light videos!

    ReplyDelete
  17. And I can't stand all your fucking stupidity Toni! I at least have a MIND OF MY OWN THAT IS ABLE TO FORMULATE OPINIONS BASED ON FACTS, that is why I'm always right and clear headed while you just make up your "facts" as you go along because you are too much of a fucking idiot. If anyone ruins anything in here it is you, make no mistake about it.

  18. And I AM leaving, I just came back to defend the honor of Liz, since one of you compared the travesty of Madonna's new truth or dare endeavor to Liz's pioneering White Diamonds. I'm gone after this post.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, because you are a Mrs. Know-It-All.

We are ALL giving opinions, but state yours as FACT and it irritates the fcuk out of people!

Just cut it out! Nobody is telling you what to think: Just lighten up and stop being so negative!

  20. I want us all to be friends. Sad face.

  21. Having kids changes you. If you don't have any you wouldn't understand. She's not the same person she was in the 90's. Her self-centered attitude is gone forever but it doesn't mean she can't be entertaining. She's selling her brand. So what. I won't buy it but it doesn't mean she can't make money off of it. If all the profits went to charity would you feel different?

I personally couldn't imagine living with and dealing with her level of fame on a daily basis. The expectations, the criticism, etc. It's a wonder she still carries on with all she has to shoulder. She isn't God. She's a person. Just imagine what it must be like. The thought gives me anxiety attacks.

  22. the brainwashed do not know that they are brainwashed.

  23. madonna will always do what she wants and i don't think anyone is disputing that. but to walk into a store and see a display of madonna lifestyle accessories IMO bastardises her image and undermines her craft. i don't like to feel exploited as a consumer.

if you like this kind of thing then it's safe to say you're probably the type who hoards anything and everything Madonna, watches the Kardashians on tv, and/or buys all manner of shit off TVSN. i know your type.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i'd like to know madonna's opinions on the 'occupy' movements.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ok, the reason why Madonna had stop the release for the original video of "American Life" was because she said there was a witch hunt at the time by the media. Anyone who spoke against war took alot of heat and she didn't want to put her kids in danger.

Regarding her tours. She have AGAIN re-invented the tour experience. This includes her last two tours. Jamie King has done a remarkable job. I've been to other concerts and they have copied the stage design and all the great graphics that are screen on the screen. More importantly M has used those screens to make her political point.

About making money, she has always in her career made the most money. She is an 80's pop star she comes from the same cloth as MJ, and there is nothing wrong with that. If they didn't care about making money, then they would have never played at stadiums and only played in cafes.

Madonna is still a pioneer and will always be, just maybe not in the form we are used to seeing.

  26. Opinions are what make blogs so great. So why do certain people feel the need to criticize and attack any opinion that differs from their own? Do you argue with Stop Signs too? Note to the Super Insecure Self-Appointed Blog Police - it just makes you look like an asshole. Seriously, chill out - meditate - or TAKE A VALIUM LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!

    ReplyDelete
  27. @slide. 100% agreed. Imagine how boring it would all be if we all agreed. There'd be no point in even posting because we'd all just agree with Pud, and he wouldn't bother asking us what we think.

When personal attacks happen on here I just switch off.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ramona doesn't give personal opinion, he states things as FACt.

    That's the problem.

    LOL@exploited as a consumer.

Uh, don't buy it, then? Too funny! LOLz

  29. If I base my opinions on the FACTS then my opinion is a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, thought you were gone after that last post?

    Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  31. tony - i meant as an investor in (or fan of) the madonna brand.

    ReplyDelete
  32. and might i add - all this from the woman who dedicated an album (AL) to alerting the world on the trappings of a modern life filled with consumerism and little thought about the world, adding that she remains enslaved by the material world but hopes she is working towards more of a balance with her spiritual life. and also who in 2008 last said "it's about the music... it's always been about the music"...

    ReplyDelete
  33. guy oseary can suck my dick.

    ReplyDelete
  34. when madonna stated in billboard magazine last year that she was considering calling HC 'Black Madonna' and actually did a photoshoot with Klein where her face was painted black, only to have the concept shut-down by Oseary, you just know he was thinking 'there's no way you're fucking up the brand i worked hard to build, and rebuild, after AL'. it's seems important to him that madonna remains commercial so he gets his cut. and therein probably lies another reason for the HC project, the madonna gym, the investment in coconut water, the material girl line and now this.

    ReplyDelete
  35. art vs commerce - it's always been an interesting tension, or balance, when it comes to madonna products.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i think she's overstepped the mark this time, no matter how well it sells. to the more discerning fan or observer this is a profount example of madonna as a human cash register!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with everybdy, I don't know whose fault it is, if it's Madonna or Guy Oseary or who, but whoever it is is responsible for Madonna nowadays being a footnote in music, and is going to fuck everything for her.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Her spirituality or whatever she believes in is her business, not ours. And LOL@anyone who thinks Guy Oseary has any power ABOVE M and forces her to do these type of things. lololololZZzz...

    ReplyDelete
  39. ok, Ramon and everybody, if she is ruined, BYE BYE.

whats the point in SAYING she is fucked etc if ur still here?

Again, like everyone else: YOUR STILL HERE.

And so is Madonna. She, her brand, her empire, her name, her legacy, her footnote, aint going anywhere, neither!

    ReplyDelete
  40. tony, why is it your concern why any of us are still here? maybe some people get their rocks off knocking madonna? or in my case most things about her i like and some things i don't agree with - just as you regularly feel the need to state how you're not one of those fans who 'loves everything' and 'didn't even like ROL the song'.

seriously, you really do come across as a twat. rise above it, keep scrolling and don't get your nickers in a twist. i don't see why it's SUCH AN ISSUE?

    ReplyDelete
  41. ...or are we starting to sway you?

    ReplyDelete
  42. and tony, i think you're naive to think that guy oseary doesn't have an influence over madonna. she has appointed him as her manager and business partner. i think the pedestal you and some other posters on this blog put her on his way too high. but hey, each to their own.

    ReplyDelete
  43. And I bet you are one who believes Madonna was feuding with Warner Bros. right? LOL

From all my the replies to Ramona's comments and yours, I have come to the conclusion that your opinion of me is null void. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sway me into what? Seeing things that arent there? A feud with Warner Bros. her being in a cult, her manager running her career without Madonna having any say, keeping her locked in a wheelchair and forcing her to consider Sunset Boulevard???

    So odd.

    ReplyDelete
  45. right, 'null void' but followed by a post defending yourself re my comment about you.

you need to back off a bit and not get so offended by a little madonna critique. you and the rest of them.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Huh? I talk shit about tons of Madonna stuff. I just don't sit here and go on and on and state my opinion as if it were a blanketed FACT.

The way you and the 'others' do.
