Madonna's Ex-Dancer Luis Camacho on Super Bowl Half-Time

Camacho in Madonna's 1990 Vogue Video.

23 years ago, Luis Camacho and Jose Xtravaganza taught Madonna how to Vogue. Camacho was a dancer on Madonna's Blond Ambition tour in 1990 and, of course, seen in Madonna's revolutionary documentary, Truth or Dare (1991). Here he is with some other schwanzlutchers weighing in on her Super Bowl half-time performance.

  1. Good points and bad points?? I stopped listening right there. The super bowl show was HISTORIC, and pretty much like the real Cleopatra's entrance into Rome, NO ONE WHO WITNESSED IT WILL BE ABLE TO FORGET IT AS LONG AS THEY LIVE.

PETTY, SMALL AND NEVERWILLBE PEOPLE may say it had "bad points" but it will be talked about for CENTURIES TO COME and I mean that.

  2. ^ well he's talking from a Performers point of view also and he's right there are always good/so-so/bad parts, any artists will tell you that no matter how "EPIC" something is. Artists are generally the harshest and most accurate critics of a performance because they know exactly what it takes to achieve that how much technique is required, what natural ability you need to have and how much projection it takes to shine on stage. And the fact that he knows Madonna on that level gives him a better insight than most. The fact he gave it an 8 is pretty cool, he could have easily been petty about it but it was nice that he just said it straight what he thought of it.

  3. I don't have to be a performer to know what's a good performance and what's not, I myself work as a photographer, so I know about what it takes to make good art, I've worked with many stage actors, and I know it. That whole "you must be a dancer to criticize" thing is just a fucking cop out, otherwise what's the point of profesional critics?? You don't have to do it to have a valid insight.

Having said that, you cannot downgrade Madonna's performance to an 8, based on what? on the fact that she tripped?? please.

Luis, just like EVERY OTHER BLOND AMBITION DANCER, with the exception MAYBE of Carlton, are all bitter because they thought they were going to be Madonna's best friends for the rest of their lives, and Luis particularly thought was going to be the next WHAM!q with his atrocious Queen's English.

There is nothing good about his opinion, even if he was nice, you can sense the thinly veiled vitriol. I don't care for his opinion, Madonna's performance was FLAWLESS AND GROUNDBREAKING.

  4. I don't see anything wrong in what he said, not sure why you're upset over it.

Flawless & Groundbreaking, I mean I loved it but some of the comments I've read over her gig have been a bit over the top and on par with others who sway in the other direction and call it absolute crap.

Truth is as in life most things fall somewhere in between, but Fanboys and Haters alike will always go to those extremes.

If you see it as Flawless & Groundbreaking, awesome great for you but don't deny others that are a little less enthusiastic with their accolades to the Queen.

  5. I will most definetely denying them because the ones that are less enthusiastic to downright vitriolic about it are the type of people who wouldn't be able to recognize greatness even if it hit them like a ton of bricks. Forget about Michael Jackson whose career and creativity were OVER by 1993, Madonna IS the greatest artist alive and THE greatest pop music icon of the XXth century, or history, she left MJ in the dust 20 years ago, along with everybody else and this is the person people are calling a hag, or calling her show lame or having good points and bad points as if it was the show of some wannabe JonBenet Ramsey 60 year old rodeo clown, GIVE ME A BREAK.

The show was FLAWLESS, and yes it WAS groundbreaking, it pretty much set the bar 20 levels up not only for super bowl halftime shows but tv shows IN GENERAL.

Sorry if some people don't want to accept that but it's the truth.

  8. Ramon you crack me up, but have to correct you I never once said "you must be a dancer to criticize" any Tom, Dick or Harry can weigh in their opinion, you just seem to want everyone to have yours. Sorry the world doesnt work that way. But that said us Madonna fans are better off having your pitbull tongue on our side Bwahahahahaha Here go attack this guy: http://youtu.be/MdBmiJwhCFQ GO PITBULL GO!!!!!

  9. lol, I'm already ripping people up into shreds over at tumblr for having the audacity to criticize Madonna. And, is it so wrong to want other people to have my opinion? After all I make a point of basing all my opinions on facts =)

  10. Do people also understand Madonna had a hamstring injury, do they give her some leeway for that. I think some of the criticisms are unfair purely because she was performing injured. I love the Superbowl performance purely because she really brought together an entire stadium and filled it with love and goodwill and pure joy, that is what made the performance memorable and epic for me and I think that is why so many people love it.
