Rolling Stone Reviews Madonna's MDNA Album

18 comments:

  1. i love how mdna hasn't got a single negative review so far. this is madonna.

    regarding the commercial connection thing, i don't know one artist who doesn't want his work to have commercial success.

    the issue is that madonna's music is beyond just commercial. it has the required quality as well.

  2. Fantastic Review!!! This critic knows M's back catalog to reference it on such an intimate level. He knows his shit. Good job, Rolling Stone!! (even though I dissed RS in a previous post) LOL ;-)

  3. I agree with my Stoner Friends and Mr. X-Static. Madonna's beats and melodies have a certain quality tha draw you in to step into her her world. She does the happy/sad balancing act. Who wouldn't want that kind of life? We are extremely fortunate to be living in the Madonna Age! The Lady is like no one else in Rock because she is a True Lifer keeping Rock alive in these transient times. Madonna Forever!

    2. RS rating scale (from what I remember)
      5 = a classic
      4 = excellent
      3 = good
      2 = fair
      1 = poor

  5. I like Joe Levy but this really isn't an album review. And 3.5 stars? and listing, 'B-day Song' as a must listen?? That says it all, really.

    The album should have gotten 4 stars, judging by all of the clips.

  6. The divorce was ages ago, Guy Ritchie's new fertile gal has naturals and the disc is mostly DOA. Turn Up The Radio and Masterpiece may chart but as a fan since True Blue this is the first time I've seen her go belly up on the Hot100 and actually deserve to. GGW most of the disc are tired as hell. Madonna is not PunkRock nor is she Rock, she is stratospheric Pop which is fun and I was hoping for another Confessions not a techno American life. Confessions tour was one of the most incredible shows I've ever seen and I know she will meet that or surpass it when I see her this summer but this album will comparatively tank because all the Madonna heat went into W.E. which was ignored and blasted despite being an astonishing achievement.

    Levy is a crap writer; Madonna is not "just like" us!

  7. Charts are so 1990. People are going to see that soon. Chart success doesn't mean a thing. I don't know why people focus on it and get bent out of shape. WHO CARES ABOUT CHART SUCCESS.

    Madonna's had enough chart success for a few pop stars. If all she does now is put out great music that doesn't chart but expresses herself at that time, that is AWESOME.

    1. i don't if we would say this if gmayl and ggw were instant #1s world wide.
      BUT i TOTALLY agree with you!

  8. why are we all focused on RS review anyway? RS used to be more relevant in 80s and 90s. I do like Jlevy but like PUD said if LAP got 3.5 *s then there is yr answer. from the NOW 12 songs/snippets we have heard it sounds like a complex eclectic mix of all Madonna moments and we are all in for a MDNA roller coaster ride cause we are going UP and down people, GET READY FOR THE QUEEN OF LIFE LESSONS!

  9. Do you not think these music critic cock sucking reporters ever take a Madonna seriously ? When you get these special best albums of so on and so on features in these shit magazines, Apart from ROL which is always somewhere near the hundred mark no other album is ever included, Even though they have all sold well, Gone to No1 in hundred's of country's and included some of the best producers around..... Who gives a fuck what these scally critics think, This album is gonna rock and no amount of shite scoring is gonna sour that

  10. I am so glad I love GMAYL, GGW and every snippet/track I have heard from MDNA.

    Such a great time, once again, to be a Madonna fan.

    Sad for those who aren't enjoying it. This album sounds NOTHING like Dreadful, I mean, American Life.

    1. This album is quickly becoming a favorite for me, but I LOVE American Life. That album was raw and deserved much more attention than it got. Of course those were the Bush years and AL the single was not a strong song to open the album with. There are several gems none the less.

  11. American Life is a great album, but I can see where it would fly over the radar of some Madge fans. It took me years to fully appreciate it. Its just another snapshot of the worlds greatest performer.
