Installment 2: The Dress

#Madonna in The Dress. Jennifer Grey in The Dress. 1988

While doing David Mamet's play Speed the Plow on Broadway in 1988, Madonna befriended Jennifer Grey and Sandra Bernhard. Here we see Jennifer Grey, at an unknown premiere, wearing Madonna's dress, belt and shoes! The shoes worn on the infamous David Letterman show with Sandra Bernhard. The b/w photo on the lower left of Jennifer appeared in Star Magazine in color back in the day.

It was Madonna's first ever cover story with Rolling Stone in November 1984, Madonna Goes All the Way, that fans first saw a pre-fame Madonna in this dress when she was in her first band, The Breakfast Club, with ex-boyfriend Dan Gilroy. She wore this light summer floral dress a few times in the 80's. One of my favorites. Click below to see:

  2. Is there any info on what brand the dress is? lol, well assuming it is designer, but I doubt it.

It's a beautiful dress but it's weird that Jennifer Grey used it is it not? Poor Jennifer Grey, she shortened her nose and destroyed her career.

  3. Ahh. The dress. I remember this one from over the years. There's some other items she's sported more than a few times over the years too. Pudd you should do a post on those too (I mean as one post - I know you've got them on here already). The Prince jacket comes to mind.

  4. She also wore it for rolling stone 89 photo shot by Herb Ritts.

  5. I never realized her and Jennifer Grey were friends :) I guess they clicked when they filmed "Bloodhounds of Broadway". I wonder if they still keep in touch? I wonder if it was Madonna that suggested the nose job? Inquiring minds want to know :) lol

    1. Jennifer got the nose job after a pretty violent car accident. From what I remember she shattered her face and several bones in her neck and back. Seems like it happened in Europe.

  6. it's so ironic looking on Madonna.. as if she's making an anti-fashion statement.. yet somehow she manages to make the dress look like Dior. she always wears the clothes, they never wear her!
