Too Old for Pop

Or maybe some of her fans are just too old for her.

She's too old.  She should wear her hair up.  She should wear her hair down.  She needs to cut her hair, it's been the same for too long now.  I don't like the majorette outfit - maybe it should be a little bit shorter? Why did she do this?  Why did she do that? She better not sing Ray of Light or La Isla Bonita on this tour.  Put down the guitar.  Why is she singing Celebration instead of Holiday? Human Nature again?  You know what she needs to do? She doesn't seem like Madonna. Get rid of the slackliners.  How dare she sing a Lady Gaga song, she's dead to me now.  Like a Virgin sucks.  She didn't even take time out to dye her roots.  She's lip-syncing.  Why did she choose NOT to lip-sync?  Madonna is over.

Those aren't her detractors, those are her fans.  And unfortunately always has been.

  1. I love this collage Madonna created for the MDNA show, which, by the way, from the images and videos seen, I think is amazing. And you are right! Sometimes I can't believe the things some of her so-called fans write about her... Awesome entry!!

    1. well said Mario. True fans would stick by Madonna no matter what. Those that think Madonna is not delivering what they wanted, in a specific criteria, should not be called a fan. More like a nagging flies

    2. oh put a sock in it. do you like everything your lover, mother, dad or brother do or say? no... but you still love them regardless.

    3. I agree w/ evrybdygegeget. It's bizarre, if not damn near impossible, to love everything an artist does and voicing an opinion is what forums are for. Problem is, many fans are taking it too far. They're OBSESSED w/ specific details and react, frankly, like spoiled brats. Ah well, M's well-paid for such aggravations. I'm sure she'd rather have it this way then no one giving a damn.

    4. That's true Red Hawkins. The only other group of fans I've seen who are this obsessed (not just critical) are Metallica fans. Marilyn Manson fans run a close second though.

    6. I'm happy that there are fans who accept the truth..... Madonna is the one and only queen of pop. But she has made some mistakes in her life. Even god goes wrong sometimes.... But when a fan expresses his disappointment, it doesn't mean that he doesn't love his idol anymore. Anyway I really liked all the comments above...

  4. I love what she says (I love that she finally says it head-on and will for months and millions of people to see!), and I love what YOU say.

"Those aren't her detractors, those are her fans." --- you are great.

  6. Yes Pud! Right as usual! I was shocked at some of the comments last night by fans of another female pop star on twitter (no names!) but woke this morning and found them pretty similar to many of her so-called fans on a certain messageboard.

I howl at the arrogance of certain people, truly believing they know better than Madonna at what she should be doing on stage. I mean, what does she know after all these years?!?

Having an opinion on her work is fine but the vile attitudes of certain fans sickens me.

At least I know Madonna doesn't give a...

  8. I am so glad she did this and I applaud her for saying FUCK OFF without actually saying it. Her integrity and self respect are intact. This is only one of the reasons why I love this woman, she might not always do things I like or agree with but when she delivers the woman delivers.

I am proud to be a fan.

  10. Fantastic!

And a lot of the fans who say this about her post on this blog!

    LOL!!

  11. Thank you, Pud! Yesterday I was so excited to get home and check all the news on the opening night and then I started reading these awful comments from some "fans" and suddenly what was supposed to be a joyful and inspiring night became a discussion with my boyfriend about these people who just can't stand her longevity and who are afraid of getting old and then turn their backs to their former idol. But my boyfriend said the most simple thing, which is the truth: why these people spend their time on forum boards and posting comments everywhere about someone they don't like anymore, about someone they don't admire, somebody they even hate? THIS is sad and pathetic - not Madonna or her hair or wardrobe or whatever they are always criticizing. Lesson learned: I love Madonna and I'm very proud of this another great artistic accomplishment of hers and I just can't wait to see her live again! Pud, you should come to Brazil to see some of her shows here - it's an insanely loving and passionate audience! And again: your post is just brilliant!

    1. tell your boyfriend that everyone is free to enjoy and study madonna however they choose, and that a 'fan' can mean different things to different people and that it is not limited to yours or anyone's definition of it.

    2. And 'fans' of artists usually praise them more then they put them down. You put Madonna down far more then you praise her and having an opinion is okay, but you are an annoying twit when you do it.

Especially when you praise that ugly wannabe, Lady Gaga.

Madonna has more originality in one of her fillings then Lady Gaga has in one of her meat thongs.

  12. You said it Pudd and so did Madonna. Is she too old for pop? NO! SHE IS POP music. It's history and fact. Whether radio programmers respect it or not. Does it matter? NOT AT ALL. This video montage is just truth in it's most blatant state. It is amazing, thought provoking, disturbing, sad, happy and lovely all in one. I am a PROUD Madonna fan and always will be. Thank God for her.

  13. Madonna is younger than me and I'm 20 y/o. I run 4 times/week and have zero doubt she would leave me in the dust in a half marathon.

    about the fans:

    - I think they're the most demanding of any artist's. This is 'cuz Madonna is THE ONE + is charting uncharted territory as she has her entire career. we want top notch from her in all areas + at all times, we won't let her slip. Unfortunately we're slow with the memo she's Madonna for a reason and knows what's best @ all times. certainly much better than the fans' expectations. after 30 years we're still not up to speed. Maybe another 30?

  14. Madonna"s fans are the worst. Lost in their own wilderness and blaming her fro not finding their way out. Yuck. Poor Madonna. She has the most disloyal fanbase. I wish I didn't share anything with them. They ruin everything.

  15. I've made some of the criticisms that Pub quoted above. But it's just an opinion, MY opinion. I am a huge fan. I admire her so much. But it doesn't mean I like everything.

If we all have to love everything and not comment, just shut down the comments section of the website. Or just shut down the website and let Madonna's work speak for itself.

  17. LOL @ the italicized rant. It's true though, we've all seen the comments. I myself am guilty but not anywhere near the extent many have been going these days. So much bitching over setlists and "no promo." Get over it!

  18. It comes with the territory. I'm a Madonna fan but by no means am I a fan of everything she's done. One person's trash is another's treasure. That's just life. And YES, I still think the majorette thing is silly.

  22. It's strange and ever so sad to see someone waste their life thinking about a celebrity. It's his obsession that fascinates me, not madonna per se. She's just running around collecting money using the same old tactics. Her album sucked. The best thing about the tour are the special effects on the screen. She's just raking in the cash like she's always done while she laughs at the loons that help her profit. Weird.

    1. If you really feel that way, then why are you on a MADONNA FAN site? Your opinion is fine and yours. If you don't like Madonna then go play somewhere else. Don't cut on Pudd for creating a MADONNA fan site for people who love her. My most sincerest FUCK OFF to you.

    2. Life's all about being obsessed with something. It can be a person, an object or anything else. If you can't be obsessed with ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD, you're a machine, not a human being. Wake up dear friend!!! Be a human.... Or at least stop criticizing others for loving something...

And a word to Trey, your SINCERE FUCK OFF made me laugh for more than an hour... He really deserved that....

    3. Stranger and sadder for someone to be wasting their time obsessively hating on a celebrity! Why not do something positive with your life? Life is too short to be that bitter!

  24. Uh, Luke777... Why are you even on this site if you think like that? Go away. I don't like every song on the album and may not be thrilled with everything she does but I'm still a major fan entitled to an opinion on what I think is good or bad (take that Pud) but you obviously have no business here. Troll.

  28. I'm a true Madonna fan but I will always voice my honest opinion respectfully- negative or not. Anyway, celebrities will always be critiqued, it comes with the territory when they choose a public profession in front of the camera. (of course this is just my honest opinion lol)

  30. Madonna has fans of all ages... this is normal, ones are more mature than others and it shows the way they critique her... is all good as long as they keep buying her stuff... In my personal opinion if you like everything she does and always agree on her success and no so successful material your just a follower without opinion, so NOT MADONNA, cause M is all about expressing yourself the way you feel etc... thats why theres so many critics on her fan base!
also i think that video is more focus on the press media overall not to her fans, so this post is a little over dramatic...

  32. I will always defend Madonna! Proud to be a fan. Her dignity, humanity and self-respect are intact! Nobody Knows Me is her most autobiographical song-the melody and beats are Madonna at her saddest. I mean that as a compliment. It would even be great if she covered fellow one-namer Prince and his vitriolic anti-fame anthem Pop Life. Madonna would burn that song to pieces! Then again I'd like for her to take a crack at Taylor Swift's Angry Country Rocker Picture to Burn! I know Taylor would love that!
