She should've stayed brunnette for the tour, so much better.
She did the Vogue video before the tour right? I mean was it after she dyed her hair blonde for the tour or she did Vogue first, then was with black hair for a while and then went back to blonde for the tour?? Confused about the timeline here.
The timeline goes back to early 1989. Madonna was still brunette during the Like a Prayer era, but Warren Beatty wanted her blonde for her role as Breathless Mahoney in Dick Tracy. She didn’t want to change it. In a June 1989 interview with Smash Hits, she said she had begged Beatty to let her keep her dark hair because it had taken her so long to grow it out and she loved having her natural color again.
She was still brunette in late January 1989, when she told Rolling Stone that she would have to dye her hair blonde again for Dick Tracy, which began filming in February. By the time she filmed Express Yourself in April 1989, she was already platinum blonde.
The Vogue video was filmed on February 10–11, 1990, and premiered on March 29. She was already blonde, having changed her hair for Dick Tracy the previous year. The Blond Ambition Tour then opened on April 13, 1990, in Japan. So the return to blonde wasn’t originally for the tour. It had started with Dick Tracy more than a year earlier.
However, Madonna went back to brunette in late 1989. She was photographed with dark hair during her costume fittings with Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris in December 1989, while they were preparing for the Blond Ambition Tour. By March 1990, she was blonde again, just before the tour began on April 13. So she actually went from brunette to blonde for Dick Tracy, back to brunette in late 1989, and finally back to blonde for Blond Ambition.
gasp!!!! so gorgeous!!!! btw she lost a lot of weight between the moment this was shot and the actual tour... don't get me wrong... she looks beautiful here... but in the actual tour she got so so skinny...
@Ramón H.: I thought the same thing before i read your comment. I'm confused, too. But i think your second choice is right. Vogue video should have been done at that time because this brunette hair took place on The Immaculate Collection artwork and album includes Vogue.
The Immaculate Collection artwork and Blond Ambition Tour book photo shoot took place Dec 17, 1989 these photos were taken sometime in Jan, 1990 and the 'Vogue' video was shot in early Feb, 1990 hope that clears that up for you :)
i'm most puzzled over the trench coat... was this supposed to be worn for La Isla Bonita? hmmmm... why?? lol.. good choice in cutting that one out. the EY corset/suit & KIT outfit are the best pieces, IMO, hands down!
Such an odd tour. Some of her best performances ever: Express Yourself, Keep It Together, yet also includes many of her worst: Material Girl, Cherish, Into the Groove, all the Dick Tracy songs...
@Slide: yes. the trench coat was supposed to be part of the original inclusion of La Isla Bonita, which was going to have a rainstorm type of theme. La Isla...was eventually scrapped, and replaced by Like a Virgin, with its gorgeous/brilliant Egyptian theme.
