IDK who watched it on E! but they had an interview with the stylists afterwards. One was sex kitten vixen look, one was the rock star look and the wig one was the Madonna icon look.
Dude, I am fucking DIGGIN' her platinum hair. In my opinion, she looks more like Madonna now than she has for the past 10 years. Not to say that she has ever looked bad, but the return to this blond bombshell things just makes her put any other act to shame. The video is killer, and she looks smokin hot throughout. Hope she'll say fuck you to all the ageists and rock the blond look once again. Blond ambition round 2 please :)
It's stunning, arresting, thrilling, she looks like a masterpiece, there's an awesome DANCE, and the idea that a song about GIRLS only features HER and GAY MEN is simply provocative and elusive.
Beautiful video, she looks great. BUT am i the only one who misses when she told story's threw with her video's? This video has no story line or anything really to say. Its just gay Kazaky dancing and Madonna humping a wall again. at least she looks good.
Hollywood is terrible and Ray of Light? Sped up footage with Madonna standing in place, bouncing up and down in front of a green screen? lol. Hardly great.
Tony, hi. Hollywood is not terrible. 4 Minutes is terrible. Hollywood is fine.
Ray of Light I agree is not good enough, but everyone and your mother remembers it. It's still parodied today (Family Guy for example). So again, my point was about whether it was iconic or not.
This video is iconic too.
Thrumyeyes, I did want to offer my interpretation of the story in this video: the journey into the mind of a 50-year-old who people want her to look like a widow/divorcee (the Marilyn looks and scenes) and a praying old lady (the whole intro), and how she feels inside (Madonna in the gravity room, her kicking it with her gays on the dancefloor, etc). If you look at all the scenes where Madge strikes the Marilyn look, she's always depressed and giving lots of drama. The rest of her personas are either sexual, joyous or rebellious. My two cents.
LOVE it! It's Madonna of yore and Madonna of now blended well. Not my fave video ever, but I most certainly did not yawn. Now what's up with the whole Revolver lil wayne dressed up like the pope thing for the tour???
Oh, my! Much better than I thought it would be based on the preview. I love the editing of the scenes where she's in the sportswear (??), and the choreographed scenes with the heels-wearing guys? Ah. May. Zing. Also, this video makes me like the song, which in itself is quite an accomplishment :P
Last year, I wondered what the hell a new Madonna music video would look like in the age of Lady Gaga... a year later, that new Madonna music video looks like what it should look like... Madonna at her best: Madonna simply being Madonna. I L-U-V this music video. It's as if a modern-day "Vogue" had a baby with "Erotica." My favorite of hers since "Hung Up"!
Also, I L-U-V that she's once again introducing underground music, themes, looks, artists to the mainstream. Check out Kazaky on YouTube.
...and just like how she helped make Herb Ritts one of the go-to & most sought after music video directors of his day, I have a feeling she's going to do the same with Mert and Marcus, fashion photographers who Queen M persuaded to direct a music video. Watch!
The MDNA era continues to deliver ten-fold. What can be said? It's Madonna's return to gay, Madonna's return to back-up dancers in her videos, hints of Dita, hints of 2012, absolutely the perfect video for this song.
I remember months ago when the title "Girls Gone Wild" leaked I was terrified. How could Madonna pull of a song with a title like that I wondered?
I love that she used the Kazaky guys. They are beyond amazing! This video is so much fun. Definitely Erotica meets Vogue. Can it get any better than that?
I can see where the hair/clothes could be inspired from this film.. that movie is so deliciously trashy on every level.. girls gone wild, indeed. would love to see a "Faster Pussycat" section in the show... slutty tuff girls, vintage racers, guns, explosions
i saw the show live and the energy was amazing, though recognised she had some growing to do in terms of putting on a tight show. watched the hbo special and had the same feeling. it was her first big tour and it evolved as the show toured the world. a great start though. lets see how she develops.
She isn't a good live performer. Every time I have watched her do a live performance on TV: Oprah, MTV Awards, etc, she always has a mishap. Not being hung high enough, couldnt break the window of the car on Oprah. lol etc etc.
Sorry. Stick her behind a piano and have her not move and she might do well like Elton, but she can't dance and she isn't pretty, though she looked fine on MTV's Boiling Points a few years ago before she became the fake Gaga and was her normal teen self with tons of makeup and rich girl clothing :)
i think she has become more powerful live with each and every performance. no-one puts on an tv/awards performance like her these days - at least not to such a consistent level each time. the level of commitment is pretty amazing - i.e. doing 3 or 4 different interpretations of a song on tv shows across the world in the space of a month, often with different choreography and theming each time. i mean - hats off to her. a lazy pop star she is not.
No, not lazy at all. But she can't dance and doesn't have that it or x factor look about her. Pretty or not, it just isn't there. She isn't a pop star, more of a lounge singer. She would do very well, as I have said many times, as an Elton or Tori type. Sit down and stop trying to move. You can't. You look absurd!
I think she has her own unique X Factor. It's this quirk factor that keeps people intrigued.
I think she also has this great music ability. She can write, compose, arrange, re-arrange. She is tallented in that way, and so her music and direction has no boundaries, it makes it quite interesting in this stale pop climate.
And I think she CAN dance. She hits those beats she moves well and has a great stage pressense, behind a piano and on stage dancing. She isn't as great as the best but I admire that she can do that to and well enough to make her perfomances that much better.
Compare her to Rihanna and Katy Perry who can't write or sing or dance to save their lives and rely so much on others... she's great for this industry. No she isn't Madonna but she is tallented and I ook forward to seeing what she comes up with next. The longer she has been around the differences between her and M are very evident. M is SEX, Gaga is Quirky and she weaers it very well.
BRAVA! BRAVA! LOVED IT! I could freeze frame every second of the video and be in heaven (just like I used to do as a kid with her "Madonna" Video Collection with just 4 videos on it)!!!!
I LOVE it and it is the first video of her's in a long time to actually turn me on. Very HOT and SEXY! BOTH the MEN and MADONNA! Not one complaint and neither should anyone else.
I can tell she really cares now...her videos from the last two albums have really not been worth a second look...for a while there the video backdrops from the tour were a lot better than the crap she was releasing. Love both videos from MDNA and I hope we keep getting more videos as the singles keep getting released.
lol @ pointy thing. or the blatant yoga poses... though see some mild ones in the white wall vignettes.
all in all a stylish, sophisticated video. my favourite is the glamour scenes with the cigarette, the way the light changes. mert and marcus did a good job.
GGW is fun and the video is great but musically speaking it is NO ROL.
I don't understand why you have to slam others, their opinions and her previous work when others simply give an opinion. It's not your onus to police other's views on something that is all about personal TASTE and preference.
You come off as a desperate fan, cheapening her current efforts by slamming her previous ones just to put your point across. GGW is what it is but by calling it a classic and constantly beating us over the head with this 'ROL is shit' schtick, it only takes away from the validity of what you have to say.
I get it, you're not a fan of that era but your opinion would be more powerful if you stopped putting it across in such a childish manner.
And I don't need 'validity' for my opinion. GGW is classic Madonna TO ME in the sense of it's pop appeal and melody. If you can't hear it, again, that is fine. That is an opinion. I have to keep bringing up 'past singles' or work, otherwise I'd have to bring up other artists like Lady Gaga, to which I'd be slammed against. So lose, lose for me. :)
The 'uncensored' version: The bit where she is humping the floor / wall at the beiginning is the best thing about this video / song imo. She appears to be ripping off Beyonces hair / dance a little from the 'Ring On It' video about mid way through. I wish Madonna would get her attitude (in her voice) back though. Here it just sounds like she is going through the motions. Singing for her paycheck.
Why do you feel so deffencive against Gaga, why even bring her up? I find that it is those who hate her that talk about her the most. I know in my mind she's yet to come close to Madonna's appeal or impact. She has mad AN impact but lets talk in ten years to see how long or strong it has become. Let the media say what they will because if she isn't around in five years, people will look back and think differently of her. Ever new star has gotten the Madonna comparison and few ever come even half way to living up to it.
But I know this. I therefore don't feel the need to slam her either. It's reductive. Pointless. And if I don't like her why waste my precious time?
This is what I do not understand about Madonna fans. Most past 35, are posting and acting as childish as the little Monsters, most of whom are 16-21 and though acting immature, one would expect such behaviour from them. But from adults who know better? To bicker and fight back against such children without even posing an intelligent arguement to them but only fighting fire with fire and aching child-like?
This is Paula Deen.. Y'all quit bitchin' in the kitchen! This song will sound amazin' in the clubs here in Savannah! When y'all get tired from shakin' your asses all night come on over and eat sum of Uncle Bubba's fried chicken y'all!
What was the difference between the released vid and the uncensored one other than a 1/2 second shot of that model's ass?
FIRST! J/K. I liked it.
ReplyDeleteThat wigs makes her look 1990.
ReplyDeleteUhm..gaga.erotica.give it 2me.vogue.humanNature..... mushed up in one. I liked it! Just wish she was strutting with the boys in the heals more.
ReplyDeletesorry I don't see the gaga connection. I just don't!
Deletestudy her a bit and you might.
DeleteGaga? lol. Madonna did the tear thing in the LAP video in 1989.
DeleteDumb, ignorant people who don't know how to use google :)
I LOVE IT!!!! She looks like she is having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteIDK who watched it on E! but they had an interview with the stylists afterwards. One was sex kitten vixen look, one was the rock star look and the wig one was the Madonna icon look.
ReplyDeletewell at least the face is a masterpiece. That's all I'll say.
ReplyDeleteI actually agree with you.
DeleteThe video isn't bad. Not great, not bad. She looked fantastic in the non-erotica/interview looking segments.
Dita Rules!!! I just creamed myself
ReplyDeleteShe is just ahead of them all!!
ReplyDeleteMadonna did it again.
The video is bloody stunning!!!!
Dude, I am fucking DIGGIN' her platinum hair. In my opinion, she looks more like Madonna now than she has for the past 10 years. I'm off to get drunk on this shit all night.
quite possibly my FAVORITE Madonna video EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm breathless...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful video, she looks great. BUT am i the only one who misses when she told story's threw with her video's? This video has no story line or anything really to say. Its just gay Kazaky dancing and Madonna humping a wall again. at least she looks good.
ReplyDeleteTotally hearing your point about storytelling (in my mind, I had a video idea that did have a storyline), but did
DeleteVogue,
Don't Tell Me,
Bedtime Stories or
Ray of Light
have a story? Were they bad or not iconic and memorable?
How about Hollywood?
These are all great videos by her with no story whatsoever. But they are "saying" something...
Hollywood is terrible and Ray of Light? Sped up footage with Madonna standing in place, bouncing up and down in front of a green screen? lol. Hardly great.
DeleteTony, hi. Hollywood is not terrible. 4 Minutes is terrible. Hollywood is fine.

ReplyDeleteGoogle images for the movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
ReplyDeleteM was totally inspired by this movie for her look. I love it..kind like a 2012 version of her MYV Awards 1995 look.
I can see where the hair/clothes could be inspired from this film.. that movie is so deliciously trashy on every level.. girls gone wild, indeed. would love to see a "Faster Pussycat" section in the show... slutty tuff girls, vintage racers, guns, explosions
Deleteomg - me too. I can totally see Gang Bang being performed ala Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Deletei kind of wish things would move away from that whole 'sections' format in pop concerts. bit old-hat now.
DeleteHave you seen Lady Gaga in concert? Awful. I tried to watch her tour on HBO and barely got through the 1st minute. She is just a bad performer.
Deletei saw the show live and the energy was amazing, though recognised she had some growing to do in terms of putting on a tight show. watched the hbo special and had the same feeling. it was her first big tour and it evolved as the show toured the world. a great start though. lets see how she develops.

ReplyDeleteMadonna's youtube channel has posted an uncensored version of the video.
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I love the video. WOOHOO!!!
ReplyDeleteI still dont like the song - sounds emmotionless to me. The video is pretty boring but at least she isnt doing that pointing thing she always does.

Deleteall in all a stylish, sophisticated video. my favourite is the glamour scenes with the cigarette, the way the light changes. mert and marcus did a good job.
agreed about the song though.
Good thing I hate the song, ROL. GGW is a great, classic Madonna song. :)

Not hating just wanting you to JUSTIFY YOURSELF.
I don't slam anyone. I think she sounds like a dying cat on the song, 'Ray of Light'. The rest of the album is sung beautifully.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I be entitled to my opinion? That's all any of us have: Opinions. :)
You always slam other fans when they have a different opinion than yours. You can make your point without having to insult others.
DeleteAnd I don't need 'validity' for my opinion. GGW is classic Madonna TO ME in the sense of it's pop appeal and melody. If you can't hear it, again, that is fine. That is an opinion. Some pubic hair at the start.

ReplyDeleteTony,
DeleteThat was a nice ass. Admit it.
