I think JML was the first maxi-single I ever bought. These 2 images from that shoot are SO powerful and strong. Definately showed where she was heading.
This and the 1990 Bazaar photo shoot are one of my favorites. I still remember getting my copy of the CD single and jamming to the ‘Express Yourself’ remix for days on end. I also loved the Hip Hop remix of ‘Justify My love’ where at the end she says: “FUCK ME”. What a great era for Madonna fans.
That Bazaar photo shoot was just breathless. Words can not explain how fashion forward and ahead of the times it was. Love her attitude in the pics were amazing.
I also love the cover of The Face Magazine where she has her lip curled scrunching her face....ahh the memories!
Seriously this was Lady GAGA before Lady GAGA!
PUD...you think we will ever see any outtakes from that session soon?
I agree, the Face/Harper's Bazaar shoot is one of her best but is really used in articles/books. Surprising considering the iconic outfits she wears. I remember buying postcards with the gold corset, silver top and keep it together shots on them.
I saw the gold corset up close last year in New York at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame exhibition. Absolutely amazing to see it up close, amazing detail. She's also tiny!!!
This beats the rest hands down. When I heard the Beast Within off this CD the first time (16 years old) I was confused and curious all at the same time. When ReInvention tour hit I intentionally avoided internet and television spoilers about the concert so I could take it all in objectively. When this song came on after the lights went down I about shit my pants.
This may very well be my very favorite image of Madonna EVER. I loved that look and that era and for me this is the point at which Madonna graduated from a HUGE music star to a true one-of-a-kind, ground-breaking LEGEND who was forging into true, never-been-done-before, territory!
And even then, who could have imagined the whole Sex book & Erotica era! I can't think of another singer (male or female) whose career could even survive such an artistic endeavor, much-less thrive time and time again!
GaGa can dress like it's Halloween until that big 'ol honker of hers falls off her face because Madonna has already broken all the ground there is to break - and she's not even anywhere near done yet!
Damn, I am so crazy in love with this woman it's like one never-ending orgasm! "Fuck Me".
i once saw a photographer's documentary in the 90s where Demarchilier is being interviewed in his nyc studio and tells the story behind this session. he was shooting her for Glamour magazine and after they finished, M changed into her own clothes (the exact clothing you see in this shoot) and was about to leave when Patrick asked to shoot a couple of extra rolls of her just for fun, as he thought she looked so amazing in the ensemble... she obliged, and loved the photos so much she used them for the single packshot.
Dot dot dot was allowed out of "it's" cage for an hour to once again vomit his hateful shit all over this fan site LOL. Welcome back you worthless piece of shit LOL. P.S. Have you called Jenny yet?
I had no idea that he'd discussed this photo session that way. Great inside scoop, makes the photo session that much cooler to think it was just on a whim like that.
