The Virgin Tour was brilliant - so many good moments, my favourite being Over & Over. She was everything you could ever want. I listen to it as though it was yesterday but it's so long ago I can't stand it ;-)
WOW...Just amazing candid pics of this tour. So little rare and candid stuff exists from this tour, this is a real treat for super fans of the tour like myself. What city was this in?I would say the opening shot of the stage is my favorite. It was never used in the VHS release of the tour so most people dont even know how the show really opened up.
Glad people are loving the pics! This is the info from the person who took the LAV pic...
"Here’s a picture of Madonna that I took at Madison Square Garden in NYC on June 15, 1985. Madonna just released her second album, and she was on her first concert tour (Virgin Tour). The ticket to this concert was given to me by a friend. At the concert, the Beastie Boys were the opening act, and they were booed off the stage. The most memorable thing about this concert was the number of teenage girls in the audience wearing white flap skirts, tights that were cut off below the knee, and white lace gloves. I don’t think Madonna realized that her style of dress had created a new fashion trend. The songs that Madonna sang that night were Borderline, Holiday, Get into the Groove, Material Girl, and Like a Virgin. After singing “Like a Virgin”, Madonna had to run off the stage in order to change into another outfit. I was sitting in the third row, and I was close enough to take this picture. I’ll bet nobody knew at the time that her music and popularity would last over three decades. I remember that the music of Cyndi Lauper was also very popular in the mid 1980’s, but her popularity eventually faded. Madonna is considered to be one of the "25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century" by Time for being an influential figure in contemporary music. She is known for continuously reinventing both her music and image, and for retaining a standard of autonomy within the recording industry."
I just checked the source of the pics and they have March 20th listed as the date the pics were taken. The tour hadn't started yet but I did some checking and there was a show on April 20th in San Diego and a show on May 20th in Chicago. Chances are they meant one of those dates instead of March 20th.
I love the Virgin Tour,so much passion, energy, she was a fury on stage.I used to buy a lot of specials back then, with so many pictures, and I have almost every picture from this tour:)
