I think because she used to dye her hair so much she would go dark for a bit to give her roots a break. Adding color is not as bad as removing. So after shooting dick tracy i'm sure her hair was fried and she had it chopped it off short and went dark so her hair would not fall out. Even at least a month would have been good for her hair to not be stripped blond-Getting her scalp ready for the tour.
@konstantine, actually going from blonde to jet black is just as damaging to hair as lighting it up.
I know that she didn't want to go blonde for Dick Tracy but Warren forced her too,I guess she dyed it back after it but why blonde again? I mean she has said on numerous times that she is glad to be back to brown/black and wants to keep it that way but has to change it for work, seems kinda dumb to me.
The character of Breathless Mahoney wouldn't have been authentic if Madonna had kept her hair dark. Breathless was a blonde bombshell, and Warren was right in needing Madonna to dye her hair back to blonde again.
Additionally, Warren also made Madonna gain 10 lbs for the film, which ended up making her look more voluptuous, and suited her nicely. That's part of the reason why JPG had to refit/resow the costumes at the last minute for the show. Because she had been trying on the outfits during the filming of Dick Tracy and then after rehearsing, she'd lost a bunch of weight.
Notice in one of the sketches Madonna has a raincoat on. That was for the original inclusion of La Isla Bonita, which was going to have rainstorm theme/dynamic going on. It was eventually scrapped and replaced by the brilliant Egyptian theme and Like A Virgin.
I know that breathless being blonde was the right decision, but I'm talking about Madonna in her life, she seems to prefer dark hair, at least at the time, after a particular project ended she would go back to dark, and the blonde ambition tour wasn't named like that initially.
Ramon what's insulting and annoying is that you write as if you're an authority on Madonna and you are not. I was being polite when i wrote "i think". I know for a fact why she dyed her hair dark and then went to blond because I live in LA and my close friend worked with Madonna and her team doing her hair during that time. Adding color is always better then stripping color- google away.
Blonde is a state of mind. Look at blondes through history, in particular Hollywood legends. Being blonde is about being sexy, striking, standing out, being the centre of attention. Madonna always understood this and her personality and attitude shines in a different way when she's blonde. I love that she released Like A Prayer brunette, having returned to her roots, that was perfect. Her hair colour reflects her mood, where she's at spiritually, emotionally. Before Madonna the archetypical blond was pretty weak, a victim even (Monroe). The more Madonna feels overtly sexy, strong, fierce, powerful, the blonder she goes - Open Your Heart, Vogue, Justify My Love. Madonna redefined what it means to be blonde.
Why did she had her hair jet black right before the tour and why did she dyed it blonde?
ReplyDeleteBecause she wanted to...
ReplyDeleteThat's a dumb answer. She never dies her hair because she wants too, it's usually to go with an artistic project.
ReplyDeleteBecause she said the lighting was better captured by blonde hair and made her look better under the spotlight.
