Nile Rodgers Notes on Madonna's Love Don't Live Here Anymore

Love Don't Live Here Anymore notes from Nile Rodgers.

Love Don't Live Here Anymore gets a bad rap, especially from the jaded British press. Going off memory, one English critic said that Madonna wasn't believable singing a song of lost love, she was better suited as the aggressor. I thought it was crock of shyt then and I still do today. LDLHA is one of Madonna's finest vocal performances and this is the song that made my best friend a fan way back in 1984.

  1. I adore this song!

Since I never really listened to it until it was released in early 1996 from 'Something To Remember', I always equate it with that.

The Extended Journey/Hot Mixes were amazing. LOVE this song and yes, very underrated.

  2. Another critic (in Q magazine) said she sang the song as if she was a cat with its tail caught in a door. Not exactly sure what that means but it's not a compliment.

  3. Who cares what critics think? We need to think for ourselves.

  4. Everyone I know loved this song at the time, when I was a kid and we played LAV track by track , we always thought why didn't they release this as a single?
To me all LAV tracks could of been singles, yes even Shoo be.
I thought the re-release and the video of LDLHA in 96 was a bad idea.
Too after the fact. Oh and that remix of it byJunior and single remix just awful.
It should of and to stays preserved on LAV.
It must be listened to after Over and Over!
    Must!

Ps I love reading and seeing any comment from NILE in LAV. Takes us back to those Virgin golden years!

  6. Oh Pud, you always know how to stir up memories...
I loved this song on the LAV album, I was quite impressed with her voice and also loved how her voice kind of broke at the end, followed by the heavy breathing. That was great producing from Nile, to keep that in. Love love love it.

  8. and yes 39b47, 'everybody, just everybody' loved this song and played the shyt out of it. thats the other thing about M records, the non singles become bigger than the singles to her fans. she was always accused of being a 'singles' artist but really she is the ALBUM ARTIST EVERYONE ASPIRES.

  11. Her emotions sound so RAW on this, it's searing, gorgeous. The Uk critics response to it always shocked the fuck out of me, twats.

  12. I love the slightly different version from, 'Something To Remember', the most. Not really a fan of the video version at all.

  13. lawd at that her emotions...like her flat ass emotions in the evita (where they had to tone it down for her to sing because she or glen close can hit lupones grand vocals)?

  14. Lupone? Uh, this was a MOVIE, not Broadway.

Madonna's pop vocals were fantastic! I'd like to see the likes of Janet, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, etc do Evita. They couldn't, trust me.

And these flat vocals sure do keep you around, Vanity! You must really enjoy them ;)
