#Madonna #MDNAtour Trivia

Madonna's MDNA tour will be the first time since she hit the road in 1985 with The Virgin Tour that she doesn't include one song on the setlist from her incredibly influential self titled 1983 debut album.

Brilliant or Blasphemous?

  1. Brilliant or Blasphemous? Neither. But I think Physical Attraction would have been fun.

  2. It's an unusual choice, but I'm happy to know she is performing the songs she wants to perform. Physical Attraction is really the only song from the first album that could still suit her maturing voice, and so I too was a little disappointed not to see it on the setlist, but it's such a classic that I am also happy to see it go unscathed by potential remixing with contemporary sounds. I love how that song just transports you straight to the hottest dancefloor of 1983!

  3. Brilliant! Holiday is actually my least favorite song. Burning up would have been cool!

  4. I'm more surprised that she didn't include Love Spent or Some Girls. I agree with @Youthinkyourecute. She could have done some cool shyte with Burning Up. Either way, I love this new tour as it is (especially her bringing back the "pussy power" persona we see in Vogue, Candy Shop, Human Nature, etc.). She's so cute that way.

    1. Love spent would have been amazing. I'm wondering if she left it out because the song doesn't fit in with theme of the concert. I have still yet to concert footage. I want to be wowed when I see her in september.

    2. Totally agree. Best song on the album in my opinion. Can't believe you haven't watched anything. I'm eatin' it up like crazy. Although, I'm not going to see her live. Students can't afford that shit lol

    3. You still have plenty of time to save lol. There is no excuse to miss a Madonna concert.

    4. I REALLY wanted Love Spent as well. My fave from MDNA. Maybe she will switch things up a bit later on in the tour. It's been known to happen!

    5. I hope once the tour is in the states, she will replace masterpiece with love spent. Don't care for masterpiece. She just has it in there to promote the movie.

  5. Physical Attraction was obviously in the running at some point. I would have LOVED that.

  6. Maybe she will change it up a bit when she picks up the tour in 2013? I would love some girls & love spent

    1. Isn't there a demo of her practicing Some Girls for the MDNA Tour? I have hopes she will change it up when she hits the states.

    2. Yes I thought there was too, it would be awesome in a stadium venue etc, never mind

  7. as much as I love Holiday, I have not been moved by how she's done it recent years so no loss there for me. Burning up was fun at Re-Invention but that's about all I needed from that song.

The only one I thought would have been interesting since she's never done it on tour and there was mention of the song prior to her tour, is Physical Attraction. THAT I would have liked to have seen

  8. Come on... it's all about what's popular. What THE MASSES want to hear at this point. I think she chooses certain songs (Cyberberraga, Nobody Knows Me) for us fans (and for herself) but people are paying A LOT of money to see her and want to hear what they want to hear. Take for example, the Super bowl. She picked three of her most popular songs in her catalog. Why? Because MILLIONS of people are watching her. I really got my hopes up for Physical Attraction, Angel, Even Power of Goodbye - As a devoted fan (and I know Pud hates hearing when her fans bash her)- I could really do without yet ANOTHER version of "Prayer" "Human Nature" and Hung Up. and WHAT is she even doing singing Pappa Don't Preach! She's a fifty something woman now! - and that's MY money talking! I am pissed she didn't pick ONE SONG from "Madonna" - My nieces and nephews now listen to that album and think it's cool. It's almost like she dreads singing the past and has mentioned in past how she grows tired singing "Holiday" - Go ahead curse me out NOW...

    1. I can always live with another version of like prayer. I think that's why the song has stood the test of time. Because its always fascinating to see how she will re-invent the song. I feel the same way about vogue.

  9. p.s. Totally random, but does anyone think she can still hit that deep register she uses in songs like Oh Father or Love Song? Not simply singing in a deep voice like she does with Like A Virgin on the MDNA Tour, but I'm more referring to that deep, gritty, guttural sound her voice makes (or used to make). She used it heavily during BAT, and her voice then even seemed more husky than it ever had before.

I'm wondering, does she simply choose to not sing in that register, or is she unable to from years of vocal training? #thinkingoutloud

  10. I am still wondering where her register went from the True Blue Album... White Heat, Open Your Heart, Pappa Don't Preach. Her vocals were perfection at that time. I know what your saying tho Punch -

    1. She was singing "guttural" because she wasn't singing properly at the time and it hurt her voice. Hence the loss of voice in WTG and BA tours and the reason she sounds so much better today live. She was singing from her throat and not her abdomen. Granted, I love her raw pops and squeaks before she was "taught" how to sing during the Evita lessons but she knows now how to preserve her voice for a tour. This was long huh? Sorry bout that!

    2. Me and my friends sat around for hours doing the Madonna vintage low voice and almost peeing our pants. Off the top of my head...

Gonna dress you up in my love...ALL OVER YOUR BODY
You're an angel in disguise...I CAN SEE IT IN YOUR EYES
From "White Heat" - I'm not gonna hurt you -- CAUSE I'M NOT THE KIND

      Any many more!!

    3. Ajeremygloff OMG!! Too funny. Me and my roommate used to drive around in her car doing the EXACT same thing. Love it. #AndWeCanRaiseALittleFamilleeee!

I love guttural Madonna... almost prefer it.

  11. we almost had Physical attraction... but something made her change the plans...

  12. i think it's fine that she's moving on past the first album. I'm ok with that. In my opinion I don't think Physical Attraction was even considered for the new tour. She just mentioned it in the interview with Jimmy Fallon, and all of a sudden everyone thinks it's in the setlist. Just because she mentioned it in conversation doesn't mean that it was going to be in the new tour. I never got my hopes up on that one. I was happy though that Perez Hilton asked her in a tweet to sing Rescue Me. At least she knows fans (like me) are waiting for that one.

  13. Physical Attraction was in the show at one point and would have been a fantastic addition. It's long overdue.

I love, 'Celebration', but think she should have somehow mashed it with, 'Holiday' to give die hard fans and casual fans, both something to enjoy.

    1. I concur whole-hardheartedly. Holiday was a staple in the first few tours and was always crowd pleaser.

  14. Blasphemy? Nah, but yes I would have liked to hear something from the first record on this tour. Physical Attraction sounded interesting, but even an old staple like Holiday would have been great. Oh well, still a great show to look forward to.

  16. I'm so happy to hear that Madonna has successfully delivered her energy to her UAE fans. But in between there were SOME FUNNY AND RIDICULOUS complaints too. I'll mention some of them one by one here;
    (1) Madonna kept her fans waiting.... Ans: Yeah! Nobody wants to wait for anything. Even me.... "Time goes by so slowly for those who wait."
    (2) Water supply was inadequate. Ans: Is that Madonna's fault? May be she'll throw water bottles next time onwards to her fans in between the show, like she used to kick balloons into the crowd during her Confessions tour?
    (3) Madonna is too old to wear cheerleader outfits. Ans: Does she look that old? Some are still finding her sexy.
    (4) Her act was lewd and inappropriate to children. Ans: Oh poor baby.... I guess you must have not known that it's a Madonna concert. Better stitch your tiny bum to the couch watching Disney Channel in TV.
    (5) No enough parking space. Ans: I don't think she can do anything with that... Poor lady gets crucified again :-(
    (6) Madonna shouldn't be allowed to enter UAE at least in the future. Ans: The idiot who said that doesn't even deserve to be on this earth.... F OFF!
    (7) Some words Madonna shouted were too bad. Ans: Hello St:Pope! I see a halo over ya head.

    1. It went top 5 in 85. And without a video. Its one of my favs too!

    2. Angel is in my top 5 favorite Madonna songs. Really wish she'd perform this and really wish she had shot an official video.

      Delete
    3. One of my favorite songs also. The video for Angel should have been shot on the black sand beach in Hawaii - You know? The photo shoot for the Virgin Tour Book and "Into the Groove / Angel record single. She has only sung Angel ONCE live and that was the Virgin Tour.

    4. But leaving Love Spent made me more sad...

  21. For the first time since Virgin tour she SOUNDS like old madonna (virgintour period) especially when she says: "I gotta lot of friends there..." (gang bang) check it out!: )

  22. I think for the MDNA TOUR (ROUND II) she should change the setlist a little bit..

    1. Girl Gone Wild
    2. Revolver
    3. Gang Bang
    4. Papa Don't Preach
    5. *Deeper and Deeper*
    6. I Don't Give A
    7. Best Friend/Heartbeat - Interlude
    8. *Nothing Really Matters*
    9. I'm Addicted
    10. Like a Prayer
    11. Open Your Heart
    12. *Love Spent*
    13. Justify My Love - Interlude
    14. Vogue
    15. Candy Shop (or maybe *Physical Attraction*)
    16. Human Nature
    17. Like a Virgin (or maybe *What It Feels Like for a Girl*)
    18. Nobody Knows Me - Interlude
    19. Express Yourself
    20. Give Me All Your Luvin' (or maybe *Some Girls*)
    21. Turn Up the Radio
    22. *Everybody*
    23. Celebration

    (1) This version of Hung Up again is awful and needs to be replaced. Deeper and Deeper would fit in perfectly between PDP and IDGA
    (2) Nothing Really Matters is replacing I'm a Sinner, which is a good song with an OK performance, but moves to the beginning of the section (including LAP and IA), which imo make more sense in the "Prophecy" section than EY, TUTR and GMAYl. Plus, NRM would be perfect after BF/Heartbeat which deals with death, etc.
    (3) Love Spent should replace Masterpiece and can be performed in it's acoustic version (if necessary) and can also be lowered down so Madonna can actually sing this song. (maybe with Kalakan) Love Spent followed by JML, again would make much sense when it comes to meaning, etc.
    (4) Candy Shop can (but doesn't have to) be replaced by Physical Attraction, with a similar performance.
    (5) Since I really think that version of LAVis terrible (probably more because fans actually try to sing along with the original version, while Madonna is singing a version with a different melody) I think WIFLFAG would fit in perfectly especially before the NKM interlude.
    (6) EY, TUTR and GMAYL would be a much better encore and would be a little more up-cheering in the final section than IA, LAP and IAS. EY after NKM makes way more sense than IA.
    (7) Everybody needs to be done before Celebration which is a way to abrupt ending of the show it needs another encore song and Everybody after TUTR would be so awesome!
