Like a Prayer Cassette Single

Will never forget when this came out. I don't think anyone will. Driving from downtown through Hollywood out to Zuma beach in a friend's Jeep, all of Los Angeles was ablaze with Like a Prayer. The alarming opening guitar by Prince, the door slam, Madonna's sexy ethereal voice, the choir, the bells - a pop hymn. I can go on and on. We rewound this shyt so much, even the non-Madonna fan loved it. It was an enchanting time.

(Pray for) Spanish Eyes

I had a vision of Madonna in Napoli!
EAT IT!!!

Let's all take a 5 minutes and 18 seconds and show some appreciation for Spanish Eyes. One of my favorite songs from the Like a Prayer album. Absolutely one of her greatest vocal performances. Just one of those perfect gems found inside a Madonna album.

The Real Deal - Blond Ambition Tour - Like a Prayer - August 5, 1990

After last nights embarrassing, monstrous and catastrophic Madonna spoof on HBO - this is for those in need of a real star with real performance showmanship. No incessant talking, self congratulatory amateur inflated blow hole shyt - just singing, dancing, energy, strength, endurance, an eye for detail, sets, lights and just complete fabulousness. The template for touring. This is how it's done. This is how a true performer commands the stage.

The Real Deal.

Fabulous New Madonna Blog - The Beats Within

from Peter's site - Smash Hits Article about Like a Prayer.

Go visit a great Madonna Blog - it's fab! It's run by Madonna internet pal, Peter Magennis, and there are juicy morsels over there - including one about an unknown song called I Want You - no, not the Marvin Gaye tribute or the Camille Barbone years...head on over and check it out! xo

Giovedi 2 Marzo 22:25 - Madonna and Pepsi - The Big Bang

The Italian Madonna Pepsi Teaser Commercial. I always loved how there was a commercial for the commercial. The American version of this was first shown on February 22, 1989 during the Grammy Awards revealing the forthcoming March 2 debut of Madonna's Pepsi commercial that would feature the new song from her new album, Like a Prayer.

The actual commercial was shown just once on March 2, 1989 during America's number one television program, The Cosby Show. It was simultaneously shown in 40 countries around the world to 250 million viewers. The first time in media history that a commercial had an around the world satellite premiere.

The following day on MTV, Madonna premiered her fabulous video for the song, Like a Prayer. The shyt hit the fan. Pepsi withheld further airings of the commercial which were to be edited down 30 second spots of the original. Madonna was also supposed to shoot a second commercial that would announce her upcoming tour with the Pepsi logo all up and through. Never happened.

Christian groups went berserk. Christian fundamentalist, Reverend Donald Wildmon was so appalled with Madonna's video that he threatened to have his American Family Association 380,000 subscribers boycott Pepsi. Then Catholic Bishop, Rene Gracido also called Madonna's video offensive and threatened to not only going after Pepsi but it's other multi-million dollar fast food restaurants, as well. To top it all off, the Pope and the Vatican released a statement damning Madonna. Pepsi bowed out. We never got the second commercial and Madonna said, Eat It!!! - (not an actual quote) - and kept the 5 million bucks.

Click Here for a previous post that shows a great program explaining and illustrating not only the Pepsi controversy but also one of Madonna's Greatest Videos of All Time - Like a Prayer: Videos That Rocked The World.

Trivia: On March 3, 2010 - 21 years to the day Like a Prayer premiered on MTV, Rev. Donald Wildmon stepped down from the American Family Association.

Like A Prayer - Blond Ambition Tour Yokohama

I love this live performance of Like a Prayer from The Blond Ambition Tour in Yokohama - as I'm sure all the fans do. The concert performance is really like a Broadway Musical piece or the show stopping musical number in a Motion Picture.

The Blond Ambition is the first time we got Like a Prayer live. I've always pedestaled her Martha Graham dance training inclusion in this performance. Stage setting, choreography, costumes, drama, pathos!!! It's perfect. Even the tragic, back-stabbing Niki Harris is fabulous here. I saw it live at the Sports Arena here in Los Angeles every night she played and it was like a religious experience. Blast this shyt to get the full effect.

From concerts to award shows, all Madonna live tours can still be seen everywhere we turn. Unfortunately, they don't have the talent, vision, stamina and discipline to pull it off like Madonna. There will never be another.

Thank God for Madonna.

Watch as The Queen of Life Descends From the Stairs to Express Herself to Express Yourself!

Well, Express Yourself has been on everybody's lips for the last 24 hours - hell it's been on everyone's lips for the last 22 years! On twitter it is still trending. The Fabulous Anthem is classic, timeless and ageless.

Here's Madonna's strong, sexy, athletic and vocally superb performance of Express Yourself at the MTV Music Video Awards in 1989. Nobody does it better. And by the look of the pop landscape in the last 22 years, nobody ever will.

This was the template for the Blond Ambition Tour version we would see in the summer of 1990.

Don't go for second best baby!

'Born This Way' Is Lady Gaga's 'Like A Prayer', Perez Hilton Says

Well, I just really can't comment on thaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Born This Way Is Lady Gaga's Like A Prayer, Perez Hilton Says

Lady Gaga's Born This Way has been dubbed many things: Gaga's "freedom" album and even "the greatest album of this decade." When Gaga's pal Perez Hilton spoke to MTV News, he had this to say: "This album is Gaga's Like A Prayer, and that is huge praise coming from me, who is, like, the biggest Madonna fan ever," he gushed to MTV News. "And I told Gaga that I think this album is her Like A Prayer, and she took that as a big compliment, and I'm so tempted to say more."

For those in need of a history lesson, Madonna released Like A Prayer in 1989, spawning singles like "Cherish," "Express Yourself" and "Like A Prayer." It launched a wedding dress-wearing boy toy into a full-blown pop icon who had more to say about love and life than her bows and lace of earlier albums led fans to believe. Based on the lyrics released from Gaga's title-track lead single, she too will be proving she has a lot to say.

"What's amazing about this body of work," Perez continued, "is that it really is that Born This Way is a body of work, where all of the songs make sense together. And it's as if she created this world or co-created this world with her fans, and all of these songs inhabit that world. And it's so special. The songs, the album, the videos are gonna change culture. It's gonna save lives, and it's gonna get people dancing."

Listen, I can't. Perez Hilton should NEVER be able to utter Madonna's name. Especially in the same sentence as that over-hyped heinous gargoyle, Lady Gaga.
